I operate with these dogs and as far as animal behavior goes, I’m a strong believer in nurture and education. I’ve met Jack Russell Terriers that I would not go near again, but have in no way had a bad encounter with an American Staffordshire Terrier. If you’re speaking about their owners- nicely, that’s a diverse story. Humans are creatures as nicely, and we often every have our very own concepts about “moral concepts”.

l would like to say,”Bravo” to all who love and protected our poor animals here in Greece,because without your compassion and will,they would surely be without hope.l lived in Greece since 1989,after moving from Scotland to be with my husband who is Greek,but apart from all the private groups l have seen nothing from,” the Government”,but as you described,,”phantom laws”,as there is such a vast amount of cruelty going on.Yesterday l was in the car with my husband and children ,and the car in front hit a poor cat and left it blooded and dying without stopping to see .l took a cover from the car,and covered its poor body and held it in my arms,hoping l would give comfort in its last moment of life,so sad.l know sometimes by accident cats and dogs get knocked down by running out in front but to drive off and just leave it,dying!is extremely horrible,and no-one seemed to bother as they nearly knocked me down as l was trying to save it.Laws! on cruelty,poisoning,murdering animals should be sentenced to jail,or a huge fine ,sorry! but it will be the only way for them to think about doing it again,its all about respect.As for the government they should stop telling lies,and the European council court should put people to investigate the animal right situation here in Greece,regards Antonina,carry on saving these poor creatures.

What a horrible thing to do, and I hope the man gets his due punishment (as well as the policemen thinking this could blow over). Just wanted to tell you that this story is getting a lot of cover at the website Care2 -maybe you put it there?- and there are two petitions running for the situation to change.

Τι θρησκευτικός παροξυσμός!!!! Νόμιζα προς στιγμήν ότι παρακολουθούσα κάποιον από τους τηλεοπτικούς ευαγγελιστές σε κατάσταση οίστρου! Δε νομίζω ότι θα μπω στην πρακτική να μιλήσω λογικά με έναν θρησκόληπτο! Αν οι θρησκόληπτοι ήταν λογικοί άνθρωποι, ΔΕΝ θα ήταν θρησκόληπτοι. Πώς να μιλήσεις λογικά με έναν άνθρωπο που απορρίπτει τη στοιχειώδη θεωρία του Δαρβίνου!
Θεωρώ την παραπάνω παράσταση θλιβερή και αξιολύπητη.
Οι άνθρωποι πήγαν να κάνουν ένα καλό και βρέθηκε ένας που ομιλεί ως απεσταλμένος του Θεού στη γη να τείνει το δάκτυλο και να κατηγορεί.Αλλά δυστυχώς η μέχρι τώρα εμπειρία μου με έχει διδάξει ότι όπου βλέπεις πολλούς σταυρούς και μετάνοιες κράτα και μικρό καλάθι: οι περισσότεροι από αυτούς που φωλιάζουν τα ζώα είναι αξιοπρεπέστατοι χριστιανοί που λειτουργούν με την ίδια λογική του παραπάνω: ότι δηλαδή τα ζώα είναι κατώτερα του ανθρώπου και ο Θεός τα έφτιαξε για να τον υπηρετούν, πράγμα που υπογραμμίζει και την παντελή άγνοια του παραπάνω για τον φυσικό κόσμο και το περιβάλλον. Για να μην πω ότι πριν από όχι τόσο πολύ καιρό, το ίδιο δίδασκαν οι διάφοροι “απεσταλμένοι του Θεού” και για τους ανθρώπους που δεν είχαν λευκό δέρμα!!!
Αν μη τι άλλο, ο Θεός (όποιο και αν είναι το όνομά του) διδάσκει την ΑΓΑΠΗ, και απ’ όσα διάβασα παραπάνω το μόνο που εισπράττω είναι χολή και πικρία.

What a religious delirium! For a moment I thought I was watching one of those TV preachers in a rush!!! I will not even try to talk with reasonable arguments to a religious person because after all if religious people were reasonable, they would NOT be religious. And how can you possibly reject the essential theory of Darwin?!
I consider all the above pathetic and despicable.
What the people of the shelter tried to do was a good thing and they have this feed back from a person who acts as if he/she is the apostle of God to earth with the finger pointing and preaching.
Unfortunately enough, my experience so far has proven to me that the vast majority of the people poisoning innocent animals are true, respectable Christians who act according to the above mentioned belief that the animals were created as subordinate to humans and in order to serve them, a theory that totally underestimates the environmental balance and basic rules of the natural world. Not to mention that not many years ago, various “God’s representatives” were preaching the exact same things for all the humans that did not have white skin!
God (no matter how you name him/her/it in every religion) is LOVE and the only thing I receive from the above long letter is bitterness and hate.

Well, forgive me, but to an atheist as I am all these seam totally uncomprehending! I do not believe in imaginary friends. Still I do not understand how a blessing can be something bad. Especially when it is done for the most innocent (and in many cases brutally tortured) creatures of this earth!!!

Dear ****, I am sorry that you had such a bad experience at your visit to the shelter. I can only say that when you take the time to let the volunteers know you are coming around, you can have an amazing afternoon with all the dogs! I visited from the Netherlands in September and I walked with a few of them, heard the awful stories of a lot more and all of the precious souls there (including the people!) are very dear to my heart now. Follow their guidelines and you will have a lovely afternoon, but one probably a bit more challenging emotionally… as those sad eyes can get to you.

I can understand their pain and anguish. I am trying to find a home in the area and I have problems even with single houses with back yards. “No pets allowed” can be seen on the newspaper ads even though the law clearly states that you can have 2 pets under your protection no matter what every one says. But in the end are you willing to risk your pet’s life in order to go against the flow???

SALUTE TO THOSE WHO CARE SO MUCH FOR THE MUTE ,POOR HAPLESS ANIMALS.. THE WORLD WILL BE A BETTER PLACE IF WE RECOGNIZE THE RIGHT OF ALL LIVING BEINGS THE SHARE THE BOUNTY OF NATURE WITH THEM.
WHAT ‘S THE POINT IN TALKING ABOUT GREAT THEMES OF RELIGION AND PEACE IF WE CAN NOT BOTHER ABOUT THE SUFFERING CREATURES NEXT DOOR ?
